What are the limits?

Smart banners are designed to automate creation of dozens and hundreds of banners.

That’s why there are some templates used in banners and some limits.

Those who want something that goes beyond this file settings, should consider hiring a designer. But they must understand that the price for creating so many completely custom banners with some special design is much much higher. So Smart Banners can’t do everything, but they are enough for 95% requests.
